Basic Education Requirement: Degree: auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting; OR Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following: A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; OR Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours. Specialized Experience Statement: GS-13: To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the federal service or equivalent. Examples of specialized experience for this position include experience in performance auditing, inspections, or evaluations that demonstrate knowledge of accounting and auditing principles, methods, and techniques. Experience must include applying auditing standards such as GAGAS and QSIE; planning audits (including research, risk assessments, and development of audit steps); collecting and analyzing data; and preparing work papers that document findings. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
