.In order to qualify for a Supervisory Interpreter (Bilingual-Spanish)-GS-1040, at the GS-13 level, you must meet the following requirement: Have at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private sector or public sector performing the following types of tasks: 1.) mentoring and training language interpreters working with Limited Proficiency English (LEP) patients; 2.) applying advanced medical vocabulary and specialized terminology (e.g. anatomy, surgical procedures, diseases and medications) in interpreting and translation services; 3.) reviewing and evaluating the accuracy of translated medical documentation and correspondence related to the excerpts of pathology reports or clinical findings; 4.) providing linguistic and cultural guidance to interdisciplinary medical teams, including physicians, nursing staff and other members to support effective communication and reduce cultural barriers; 5.) developing and implementing best practices in working with LEP patients, including resolving complex linguistic problems such as adapting terminology for emerging medical and scientific procedures.
