Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS 11: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to to at least the next lower grade level (GS 10) in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as three or more of the following: Assisting with the organizing, coordinating and supervising of a comprehensive residential living program ensuring a safe, healthy atmosphere; and/or providing guidance and leadership to the residential living activity; and/or modifying, adapting, expanding or otherwise changing plans and procedures for such activities as new and/or changing developments require; and/or evaluating the effectiveness of ongoing resident living activities from the standpoint of student response and behavior, unforeseen developments and program objectives. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M.,(coursework must be directly related to the position being filled such as social behavior, human behavior, psychology, or health care); OR An appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester/54 quarter hours leading to a Ph.D.). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
