Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. IDEAL CANDIDATE: Is someone with: 5 years of experience in planning and carrying out gardening work according to given specifications from supervisors - Desired. 5 years of experience in performing grounds maintenance work, such as moving, weeding, watering, pruning, and trimming, selecting and applying established gardening methods - Desired 5 years of operator experience with farm-type tractor and towed or attached equipment on level or rolling terrain, such as open fields, parks, orchards, lawns, and along roadways - Desired. 5 years of operator experience on gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles, such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, or dump trucks, which typically have a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of more than 10,000 and up to 26,000 pounds - Desired. KNOWLEDGE SKILS AND ABILITIES (KSA) 1. Knowledge of seasonal gardening tasks, such as fertilizing, preparing seedbeds, transplanting, laying sod, aerating, pruning, trimming, and applying chemicals to plants. 2. Knowledge of grounds maintenance, such as mowing grass and trimming trees and shrubs. 3. Knowledge of how to apply chemicals and fertilizers. 4. Knowledge of safety practices and procedures. 5. Knowledge of operating characteristics and skill to operate a variety of tractors, manipulate equipment controls simultaneously, and adjust equipment for various job requirements. Skill in judging clearances, heights, and turning angles of tractor and towed vehicles/equipment 6. Knowledge of and skill in operating one or more gasoline, diesel, or electric powered wheeled vehicles with a GVW of more than 10,000 and up to 26,000 pounds such as platform trucks, van trucks, stake trucks, dump trucks, passenger vans, shuttle buses, and cargo vans. Knowledge of cargo handling and hauling and techniques for safeguarding and protecting cargo. 7. Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle and farm-type tractor operation. 8. Skill in using and maintaining hand and power tools, such as seeders, spreaders, edgers, hedge trimmers, pruning shears, sprayers, spades, hoes, rakes, and mowers. 9. Ability to recognize common plant diseases, plant insects, and unusual or poor plant growth. 10. Ability to follow instructions, work orders, and specifications related to gardening, motor vehicle and tractor operation, and to perform preventive maintenance. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
